The Non-Public School serves high school students whose mental health symptoms impair their ability to access and succeed in their education. The students are supported by a multidisciplinary team of clinicians, teachers, behavior support staff, drivers, and program management. The team works closely with the students, their families, and outside agencies to support the student’s academic and therapeutic goals.

Position Description

  • The Therapist and Care Managers provide intensive strategies to address any current need for stabilization, crisis intervention, and individual, family, and group therapy. Therapists and Care Managers must have strong clinical and advocacy skills, demonstrate flexibility, utilize a strengths-based approach, and experience working with children and adolescents with high mental health needs.
  • Therapists and Care Managers work as an integral member of a multi-disciplinary milieu team that addresses the child or youth’s educational, behavioral and mental health needs. The Therapist and Care Manager adheres to all agency and EPSDT billing and documentation requirements and works with the Clinical Director and Clinical Supervisor to identify policies, procedures, and training needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintains a caseload of clients that facilitates the ability to meet client service hours goal as set by the agency.
  • Provides clinical leadership in Non-Public school (NPS).
  • Provides mental health screening and assessment of cognitive, emotional and social functioning and needs; facilitates the identification and engagement in mental health services.
  • Provides crisis intervention and stabilization when appropriate.
  • Integrates psychological, social, cultural, medical, developmental, educational, and other relevant information into clinical service development and clinical case management plan for youth.
  • Convenes planning meetings with adults in youths’ support system to develop a Community Team for each youth (Care Team Meetings).
  • Coordinates services with other agencies and resources to address youth’s needs, including medical/physical health, mental health, education, employment, independent living skills, advocacy, placement stability, and age-appropriate enrichment activities.
  • Assists youth in identifying and accessing community resources.
  • Works collaboratively on behalf of clients as needed with Child Welfare Workers, Juvenile Justice Personnel, parents and caregivers, and other providers.
  • Participates in youth’s IEPs and school re-entry meetings.
  • Attends youth court hearings as appropriate.
  • Assists youth in developing and executing crisis prevention, safety, and transition plans.
  • Complies with agency and California State Boards’ requirements pertaining to supervision, consultation, and case conference attendance.
  • Understands and complies with policies, procedures, and deadlines related to record keeping, paperwork, and documentation and EPSDT Medi-Cal billing purposes
  • Participates in agency and program meetings and professional development training as required.

Qualifications:

  • ASW/ AMFT/ LCSW/ MFT
  • Direct clinical experience working with high-risk children and youth.
  • Demonstrated clinical experience with foster care, DCFS, and community mental health systems
  • Experience providing individual, family, and group therapy to children and adolescents.
  • Experience in working in a milieu.
