Job: Domestic Violence Weekend Advocate

This is part time, Sat and Sun 7AM – 3PM, ideally the person will also need to attend a weekly meeting on Wed at 12 noon, if possible.

Goals & Objectives:

• Provide peer counseling and basic services to shelter/motel clients as needed.
• Provide counseling and referrals to crisis line callers
• Monitor shelter safety and security.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology or related field preferred.
• Sensitivity to DV clients and their children in crisis.
• At least one year of residential advocacy experience.
• Strong computer skills.
• Ability to enforce rules, show initiative in crisis situations and work with people in emotional/situational stress.
• Ability to work with people of diverse ethnic, cultural, religious, socio-economic, sexual, political backgrounds and the physically and mentally challenged.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.

• Good organizational skills.
• Possess self-motivation and initiative.
• Ability to work independently and as team player.

Requirements:

• Must have a car available while on duty, with clean DMV record and with valid insurance.
• 40-Hour DV Training certificate.
• Experience working with diverse populations in crisis setting.

Basic Responsibilities

• Provide client services to all residents including needs assessment, intake, peer counseling and advocacy as needed.
• Provide crisis counseling, referrals and information via 24-hour crisis line.
• Complete screenings and intake of clients.
• Provide assistance and support in residential program components.
• Perform room and chore checks.
• Provide accurate and thorough documentation in client case files.
• Screen and assess appropriateness of clients and make referrals as needed.
• Monitor facility for Safety & Security
• Enforce curfew.
• Attend weekly staff meetings.
• Perform data entry tasks.
