Job Information

1 month temporary position, M – F 1PM – 6PM.  Based in East Oakland, we support families with a wide array of social and financial services.  We focus on youth literacy and academic achievement, with four areas of enrichment 1) STEAM education; 2) a counseling component that supports youth with socio-emotional issues; 3) violence prevention through the arts and community building; and 4) Roaring Forward, an initiative to help teens become college and career ready.

This Instructor I position will work with youth at two grade levels within K – 5th, and is an entry level position.  It is based in East Oakland.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

·         Provide classroom instruction for youth, grades Kindergarten to 5th, using a STEAM based curriculum and Youth Program Quality (YPQ) standards.  Implement and develop program activities based on a science and cultural enrichment curriculum.

·         Provide support with reading groups, outdoor exercise and recreational games, arts & crafts, field trips, and parent engagement programs.

·         Administer standards of behavior and discipline for the purpose of ensuring safety and wellbeing of program participants.  Apply conflict resolution techniques to classroom management.  Communicate these standards to both participants and parents.

·         Ensure that all participants are picked up by pre-designated person listed on enrollment forms and keep track of children who are allowed to walk home alone.

Coordination with Parents and Partners

·         Participate in parent engagement events and activities as designated by Manager.

·         Provide good customer service, acting courteously, compassionately, and responsively to all parents and family members.

·         Maintain good relationships and ongoing communication with youth participants, parents and guardians, Campus staff, and program partners.

Program Planning, Evaluation, and Reporting

·         Accurately and efficiently enter data into various online customer tracking systems in a timely manner.

·         Complete all necessary student paperwork such as sign-in sheets, enrollment forms, and permission slips.  Keep client files organized based on program standards.

·         Conduct and participate in evaluations and surveys.

·         Complete reports as requested by supervisor  in a timely manner, including program reports, client surveys, client success stories, event summaries, and program photos.

·         Support supervisor in developing, following, and meeting goals set for the Lion’s Pride program based on participant need, grant deliverables, and agency deliverables.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

·         A minimum of two years of experience in general service provision or youth programming.

·         Experience and proficiency in working in diverse, low-income communities with cultural competency and sensitivity, and inclusive practices.

·         Has at minimum a high school diploma or GED.

·         Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office.

·         Passes criminal, DOJ, and other background checks.

·         Provide current certificate that indicates freedom from infectious tuberculosis according to California Law.
